ESAB Welding & Cutting Products is a well-known name in the world of high-performance welding consumables. They produce the AWS A5.4/ASME SFA 5.4 class E309/309L‑16 coated electrodes, all crafted under ISO 9001 quality standards. Each product comes with full lot traceability and certified test reports for every batch. These electrodes are designed to deliver dependable all-position welding performance and outstanding resistance to inter-granular corrosion.
The E309/309L‑16 electrode is tailored for shielded-metal-arc welding (SMAW) of austenitic stainless steels, and it’s also great for joining stainless steels to carbon or low-alloy steels. The typical composition of the deposited weld metal includes: Carbon ≤ 0.04 %, Chromium 22.0-25.0 %, Nickel 12.0-14.0 %, Manganese 0.5-2.5 %, Silicon ≤ 1.0 %, and Molybdenum ≤ 0.75 % (for 309/309L). As-welded mechanical properties usually achieve a minimum tensile strength of around 75 ksi (≈ 520 MPa) and an elongation of at least 30 % in the deposited weld metal. The low-carbon “L” version (309L) offers enhanced resistance to carbide precipitation and inter-granular corrosion.
