ER312 filler wires have high chromium (29–32%) and nickel (8–10%) content with low carbon (<0.15%). This composition yields a fully austenitic-ferritic microstructure, which results in very good crack resistance and toughness. The weld metal has tensile strength of approximately 700 MPa, yield strength of approximately 550 MPa, and elongation of about 25%. It demonstrates excellent resistance to oxidation and corrosion at elevated temperatures. These fillers remain stable and inhibit hot cracking, even in the welding of highly alloyed or hard-to-weld steels like tool steels, manganese steels, or stainless-to-carbon steel unions.
